Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14. It is a day to celebrate love and affection. People send "valentines" to their family, friends and loved ones.
There are different stories about Valentine's Day. One of them is about a priest called Valentine. He was a good man and lived in Rome a long time ago. At that time, the Roman emperor, Claudius, did not allow young men to get married. He wanted them to go to war.
Valentine did not follow the emperor's rules, and he used to marry the young couples in secret. One day, Claudius found out that Valentine was doing that, so he sent the priest to prison. Some time later, he killed Valentine. It is also said that Valentine died on February 14.
If this story is true or not, this date is celebrated in some countries. In
American schools, students write messages and make red paper hearts for their classmates.
In Brazil, we don't celebrate Valentine's Day, but we have a special day for the ones we love. This day is celebrated on June 12 and it is called "Dia dos Namorados".

I hope you all have a very special Valentine's Day!
